Company History

Reading Electric opened its doors for business in 1956 with one employee and the capability to repair 100 horsepower motors. By 1965 the firm had 12 employees, the ability to repair 500 horsepower motors and added electrical construction capability to serve the needs of industrial customers.

To maintain position in the marketplace, Reading Electric has changed direction and today serves as more than an electric motor repair shop. Services include repairing electric motors, compressors, generators, and welders. We provide electrical and mechanical field service work, electrical construction, and preventive maintenance services. We are a single source supplier with the technical expertise that allows us to market turnkey projects.

The company also has expanded its services to provide critical power solutions that guard against power failures due to electrical outages. Reading Electric designs and installs emergency backup power systems featuring generators, UPS systems and stationary batteries that help industrial, commercial and municipal customers protect data operations as well as security and fire systems. We also offer home standby generators for cottage professionals as well as people on “life support” systems.

July of 2000 the corporate office and operations moved into a new 40,000 square foot facility located at 80 Witman Road in Muhlenberg Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania. For over 50 years Reading Electric, located within 2 miles of its original location in Muhlenberg Township, has been conducting business and serving customer needs.
